Title: Assistant Teacher - 3's Room

Location:  Tippecanoe County Child Care, Inc. Downtown Center

Reports to:  Center Director – Bailley Ralston

Status: Full Time Non-Exempt

Description:
The Assistant Teacher
supports the Lead Teacher by helping to provide a developmentally appropriate environment in which children can learn.  The Assistant Teacher performs various activities to assist and support the Lead Teacher in the classroom and may be asked to serve as the Lead Teacher during short absences as long as the Assistant Teacher meets licensing and accreditation requirements to do so.  He or She will help to ensure that licensing, accreditation, and Agency standards, policies, and procedures are met and maintained at all times.
Essential Functions: 

  • Provide quality care and continuous supervision of children at all times.

  • Assist the Lead Teacher and other classroom staff in carrying out curriculum and lesson plans.

  • Assist children with self-care activities to ensure their health and safety needs are met, such as sleep/wake routines, personal cleanliness, and bathroom routines, picking up and putting away toys, etc.

  • Assist with Center and classroom record keeping and observations in compliance with the policies and procedures of the program.

  • Greet parents, children, and visitors and provide information and feedback as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must meet minimum age requirements for licensing.

  • Must meet minimum education requirements for licensing and accreditation.

  • High School Diploma/GED required.

  • Minimum of 6 months prior experience working with children, preferably in a child care environment.
  • Ability to work with families and children from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work as a team with co-workers.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and requirements.
  •  Knowledge of program rules and requirements.
  • Ability to read and follow simple instructions.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults.
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. frequently, up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to regularly stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and carry.
  • Ability to successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment drug screen and background check required for this position.

If hired, must complete a physical and TB test within 30 days of employment to comply with licensing requirements.
